Some chemo drugs cause changes in your skin colouring. This means your skin may become patchy with some areas becoming darker or lighter than usual. There’s nothing you can do to stop this but your skin will go back to normal when you finish your treatment. Your skin might also get quite dry and your hands and feet may start to peel.

what can help?

  • Use gentle cleansers and soft cloths (no scrubs or exfoliation). Don't share towels with the rest of your family.
  • Use a gentle moisturiser regularly so that your skin doesn’t get dry.
  • Some chemo drugs make your skin especially sensitive to the sun. Use a sun protection product of at least SPF 15 and cover up with a wide brimmed hat or t-shirt if you’re out in the sun. Don’t use tanning salons or sun beds - try fake tan instead.
