who can help and what am I entitled to?
- Your school, hospital teacher or home tutor can help you apply for special consideration if you are eligible.
- To get special consideration, you need to be recovering or having ongoing treatment for a medical condition, which is supported by a consultant.
- Your consultant will need to write a letter to the Examination Board stating the nature of your illness, your treatment over the last year, and how this has affected your education.
- You may be entitled to up to 25% extra time for your exams and rest breaks.
- If your condition has affected your ability to write, you may also be entitled to use a computer for some exams.
- You will be able to sit the exams in hospital if it is a registered exam centre. You may be able to have a separate room at your school or sit them at home with an external invigilator.
- It is up to your home tutor or school to provide all the relevant evidence and samples of work for the board, as well as enter you for the exams and provide an appropriate environment for you to sit them in.
what I can do
- Complete the majority of your coursework as the Examination Board needs a benchmark of your work and ability.
- To get an overall grade, you need to at least attempt your exams, even if you are unable to finish the paper.
