what does it involve?
- You may be allocated one teacher or several teachers, depending on the subjects you are studying.
- The teachers will be qualified primary or secondary teachers, but they probably won't have expertise in every subject area. Often the home tutors will focus on the core subjects of English, Maths and Science and whatever else they may be subject specialists in.
- They will link with your school and work through the schoolwork that has been provided by them.
- The allowance is up to 10 hours per week, but that will depend on how well you are and whether you are able to attend school at all.
- Some boroughs allow pupils to link home tuition and school, and you can work out a timetable that works for you. Everyone is different.
- During home tuition, you are expected to have an adult present in the home, and have an appropriate space for working, such as well-lit table and chairs. TVs and music should be switched off and pets should be kept out of the way.
- The internet and email can be invaluable tools for keeping up with schoolwork. Some schools will be able to email you work, and you can email the completed work back.
- Unfortunately if you are over 16, you are not usually able to access home tuition, but should link in with Connexions for guidance and support.
