There is less support for people who are at university because of the high demands of the courses and the amount of work that needs to be completed. However, there are special needs advisors and/or guidance tutors/student counsellors available at the university or college. They can help you maintain your studies by arranging things like home learning or extra resources. They may be able to help sort out resits if you need to do them and possibly arrange continual assessment in place of exams. If you have a CLIC Sargent worker, they will be able to help by liaising with the college/university staff and hopefully getting them to be more flexible!
what can help:
- It helps to talk to your course advisor or admissions officer about the possible options open to you.
- Some people are able to continue with the course by reducing their workload and extending the length of the course.
- Other people choose to defer for a semester or take a leave of absence.
- Make sure you do explore your options and don’t just give up, as you never know what allowances or options might be available.
