angry

irritable, mad, moody, furious

You might be angry with your parents, family or friends. You may be feeling 'Why me? Why not you?' and then you may feel guilty for feeling that. You might be angry because they don't understand what you are going through. It is common for people to feel angry about why this is happening to them. It is a very strong emotion that needs to be dealt with. Also, remember that some of the drugs that are used to treat cancer can affect your mood, including making you irritable.

what can help

  • Channelling your anger can be helpful. If possible, this could be expressed physically - by thumping a cushion or shouting or screaming very loudly. Or it could be through playing a computer game or playing loud music.
  • Some people find that telling people how they feel and explaining that they feel angry can help to make them feel better. Thinking about what is actually making you feel angry can help you cope with it. And it can really help if you say it to someone 'I am feeling really angry today because...', rather than snapping at them or being rude to them.
