Having trapped wind can be a bit embarrassing and very uncomfortable. It causes pain, bloating, a rumbly tummy and you feel the need to fart all the time.
what causes it?
- Swallowing lots of air when you eat and drink
- Eating foods that produce lots of gas like beans, cauliflower and root vegetables
- Having lots of fizzy drinks which put extra gas in your stomach
- Wrong levels of bacteria in your gut which allows food to start fermenting
- Constipation or stress can cause it or make it worse
what can help?
Trapped wind is not really treated as such but there are a few things you can do to help you to feel better.
- Avoiding eating too many foods like beans, cabbage or cauliflower. Don't cut them out altogether, just cut down.
- Doing more exercise to release the trapped wind.
- Drinking peppermint tea can sometimes help.
