Having trapped wind can be a bit embarrassing and very uncomfortable. It causes pain, bloating, a rumbly tummy and you feel the need to fart all the time.

what causes it?

  • Swallowing lots of air when you eat and drink
  • Eating foods that produce lots of gas like beans, cauliflower and root vegetables
  • Having lots of fizzy drinks which put extra gas in your stomach
  • Wrong levels of bacteria in your gut which allows food to start fermenting
  • Constipation or stress can cause it or make it worse

what can help?

Trapped wind is not really treated as such but there are a few things you can do to help you to feel better.

  • Avoiding eating too many foods like beans, cabbage or cauliflower. Don't cut them out altogether, just cut down.
  • Doing more exercise to release the trapped wind.
  • Drinking peppermint tea can sometimes help.
