It can be really hard when you’re a teenager if you look different from other people. It’s especially hard if the differences are something you feel you can’t hide. You should never feel ashamed or embarrassed. How you look doesn’t change the person you are underneath.
it's not your fault
Being bullied is not your fault. Bullies are cruel and often pick on people who look different from others.
it's important to talk to people
Some people try to ignore the bullies. But it’s usually difficult to deal with them on your own. It’s important that you talk to someone about what’s happening. There are people who can help. If you feel you can’t tell your parents, perhaps you can tell another adult. This might be another family member, your teacher, a family friend or someone from your church, mosque or temple.
you don't have to put up with it
Remember, you don’t have to put up with bullying. Help is available. There are some links about coping with bullying in our other stuff section.
find out your school's bullying policy
Most schools have policies on how they deal with bullies. Check out what your school’s guidelines are and follow them.
