It’s natural to feel worried or frightened when your boyfriend or girlfriend has cancer. It can often help to talk to others about your feelings. Young people often talk with their friends more than their parents about relationships. But you might think that your friends won’t understand this. If you’re not able to talk things over with your parents, it can help to talk to another adult close to you. This could be another member of your family, a teacher, a family friend or someone from your church, mosque or temple. They might be able to help you understand and cope with some of your feelings. You might try to hide your feelings from your partner, especially if you’re scared. But they might feel rejected if you are not as open with them as you would be usually.
It might help to share your feelings with someone who’s had a similar experience. Check out our share it section to see how others cope.
