When your brother or sister has cancer you can find that you have feelings you don’t understand. You might have some feelings one day and different feelings the next. You might find it hard to share your feelings with others because you think they won’t understand or they’re too busy to listen. Maybe you can’t put your feelings into words. Or you may worry that telling your parents what’s on your mind will upset them. But trying to hide your feelings can be difficult.
It can really help to talk to your parents about how you’re feeling. Sometimes your parents will find it hard to talk to you about upsetting things. They may not know how to answer some of your questions. They’ll probably be struggling to cope with their own feelings and might not feel strong enough to explain things to you. If you can’t talk things over with your parents try talking to another adult close to you. This could be another member of your family, a teacher, a family friend or someone from your church, mosque or temple.
