Apart from Macmillan Cancer Support, there are a number of organisations that might be able to help with additional costs that you or your family may face. We can only give information about some of the larger national charities for people with cancer.

Most charities ask that a social worker or professional involved in your care supports and processes your application on your behalf - this may mean that you have to provide them with details of you or your family’s income and outgoings.

It is possible that your hospital social worker or community nurse may know of small charities / organisations in your area that may be able to help you - so it is always worth telling them about any difficulties that you are facing as they may be able to access other sources of support locally.

In addition to us, the main grant providing organisations for young people with cancer are:

Sargent can make financial grants to help with treatment related expenses for children and young people under the age of 21 years. Grants are dependant upon income. For more information, speak to a CLIC Sargent Social Worker. They are available at most childrens hospitals (UKCCSG centres) and also at some adult hospitals, so do ask about them.

Leukaemia CARE

In certain circumstances, Leukaemia CARE can provide limited financial assistance to disadvantaged members. This can include travel costs, payment of essential bills, food vouchers, or help with the purchase of essential household equipment. Before they will give you financial help, you will need to see one of their regional volunteers, who will do a very thorough financial assessment of the whole family.
