How long the side effects may last depends on which parts of your body, if any, have been affected:

  • Effects on male hormone levels may be temporary but can sometimes be permanent.
  • Nerve damage to the sexual organs is long-term in most people.
  • Low levels of hormones in young women can often go back to normal if they are caused by chemotherapy but this may take several months or perhaps as long as a few years. However, after high dose chemotherapy, surgery, radiotherapy or pituitary gland damage the effects may be long-lasting.
  • In most people the feelings of tiredness and lack of energy should gradually improve, although this can take months or sometimes even years.
