Many people find that they are stronger and more positive about life after having cancer. They have learnt that they can cope with tough times and come through. Other people can feel knocked back for a long time and worry if they will ever get over it.

It can be important to know where to get information about sex, relationships and fertility matters. You could start by asking someone you already know or you may prefer to talk to someone new. Remember that even if they don’t know the answer straight away, they will usually know someone who does!

Getting information may not be enough by itself. It can also be helpful to talk through your feelings and reactions with someone trained to help you work out ways of coping. They can also help you find ways of dealing with the impact of cancer on you and your relationships.

Over time, you may find yourself faced with having to make a lot of decisions:

  • whether to get your fertility checked
  • whether to go for fertility treatment
  • what sort of treatments to agree to
  • whether or not to stop treatment

Also, having discussions with staff trained to help with decision-making can be useful. You could talk to staff at the hospital where you had your treatment, or one of the organisations in the resources section.
