Following treatment, most people are able to continue with normal education, and their intellectual development is not affected. However, young people treated for brain tumours can sometimes develop learning difficulties (such as problems with attention and concentration) and may need to have special help at school or college. The extent of these difficulties depends on:
- the type of treatment
- how much treatment you had
- how old you were when you had the treatment
Learning difficulties more often affect young people who have had radiotherapy to the brain, or intrathecal chemotherapy treatment for leukaemia. Other people may have problems remembering things.
