Losing weight during chemo

tip added: 20/02/2008

Dottie (Hodgkin lymphoma, 20, F, England)

Well I was one of the ones that lost weight and I would have much preffered to gain weight! I lost around 1 and a half stone but then the hospital put me in contact with the nutritionist and advised me about what foods to eat and gave me food supplements that are stuffed full of calories and protein!

If you are losing weight then you should definetely talk to your hospital about food supplements. Try and eat anything you can - even when you really don't want to - you've just got to. This is the one excuse you've got to make people go out and buy you any food you want though! Seriously, anything you feel like eating - eat it! And try and eat little and often as big meals can often be difficult - that's what I found.

If you do lose weight and are worried about it all I can say is the weight goes back on straight after you finish chemo. I put the stone and a half back on in about 3 weeks by just eating normally again.
