Talking to the press- Wed 19th Nov

“Have you been affected by cancer? Or perhaps one of your friends have or a family member has? Here at Macmillan, we are trying to raise awareness in the press of the issues young people who have experiences of cancer face. If possibly talking to a journalist about your personal experiences sounds of interest then please get in contact with Rachel in the press office at rgarnett@macmillan.org.uk. I look forward to hearing from you. Take Care. Rachel”

NOTE: If you are under 16 years old you have to have your parents permission to email rachel about this... You can also find out a bit more by leaving a note on my page: Thomas

Wednesday 12th November 2008

Hi, I'm Nicola one of the cancer nurses. I've recently taken over from Julie. Why not take a look at my profile and leave me a message. There should be some new info added to the site in the next few weeks so I'll keep you posted. Remember we're always happy to hear suggestions from you guys about what we should have on the site.

Take Care

Nicola

Hello! It's Becky, the TIC nurse here...

So what's new? Well, this week is my last week before i go on maternity leave... But don't worry we have someone to take over whilst i'm away! Her name is Julie Cain and she'll be working with thomas to make sure that more new info is put on the site over the coming year.

I wanted to thank you all for being so active on the site and making the forums so successful. You're the best!

Meanwhile thomas is busy working on the IT side of things to make TIC bigger and better...

I hope everything is going well for you guys and that you're managing to enjoy a bit of the sunshine we've been having. Remember if you have any ideas of information or stuff you want adding to TIC - just let us know. You can email thomas@cancerbackup.org or jcain@cancerbackup.org and we'll get on to it!

Bye for now and take good care of yourselves.

introducing Julie......

Hi folks,

I’m Julie, one of the cancer nurses. I will be taking over the TIC stuff from Becky.

I love watching chick flix, listening to loads of different music and rollerblading. Let’s hope I don’t have any mishaps with my blades while Becky’s off.

I’m really looking forward to getting involved. If there’s anything you think of that needs adding to the site just let me know. You can email me at julie@cancerbackup.org. Why not have a look at my profile and leave me a message.

Bye for now

Julie

November's blog

Wednesday 7th November 2007 - so what's new?

  • You can now add video to your page by using your mobile phone. All you have to do is film something on your mobile and text it to us. It can then be uploaded to your TIC page. For more instructions see below...

NOW you can add videos to your profile directly from your mobile phone! Watch out though, sending an MMS (video SMS) can cost up to 50p. If your parents pay your phone bill, check it's ok with them.

- record a video clip less than 20 seconds long

- send it as an MMS to 82608399167@mms.youtube.com

The TIC map has been fixed!

Thomas has managed to fix the TIC map so that you can see other people...which is kind of the point. Have a look now, and you'll actually see some of your buddies.

Remember that if you are not signed in, you can't see anyone on the map.

Fundraising

Some of you guys like to get involved and help out TIC by doing something fun.

do you want to do a parachute jump?

do you want to sit in a bath full of baked beans?

then check out our fundraising page for some ideas

We're still busy!  October 31st 2007

So we're still beavering away! This week you can see new info on tiredness. Thomas is tweaking things so that adding video and pics should be easier. I'm looking at the resources section and updating it and adding more stuff to it. So if you found any other organisations helpful - let us know.

tiredness

I've added a few new pages on tiredness to the deal with it section. Go have a read...and let me know what you think by adding a note to my page

adding video and pictures to your profiles

I know some of you have been trying to add video and pictures to your TICspaces. Sorry we've been a bit slow getting back. Here's a great example of just how good a video can be:

To add videos just send me a url (http://www.whatever.com/whatever) of the video you like from Youtube, Google Video or JimmyTeensTV.

To add pictures to your TICspace you have to upload your photos to a flickr.com account, and then send me the url. If you want though, you can send me the pictures to thomas@cancerbackup.org along with your username and I'll upload them to your page for you.

The full instructions can be found here

If you have any problems ask me on my profile page

We need your help

We are trying to build a better resources section, so that all of you can have great links to really helpful websites, organisations, books, holidays, blogs, nice wigs...anything that you find useful.

so send in your suggestions to becky@cancerbackup.org

TIC has had a lick of paint and is looking good - 18th Oct 07

There have been some pretty massive changes to the TIC site...I don't know where to start. New homepage, video on the site, adding buddies, leaving comments, adding video and images to profiles, a new forum layout, a TIC map and more...

video on the TIC site. like this one:

For the moment this will only be visible on a few pages...but it will be spreading throughout the site. What it does mean is you get to see what Becky and I look like...and we have to be on video...quite scary!

see the new profile page

profiles have been made much better

Visit my page to see what they can look like.

Buddies - you can add your friends to your profile page so you can find them easily.

Notes - you can leave messages on your buddies' pages.

Videos - you can add a video to your page (you have to ask me for it and I'll stick it in for you)

Pictures - you can add a flickr slideshow to your page (again, you have to ask me first)

I hope you like the changes...let us know what you think on the forum...

The TIC blog for September 17th 2007

Hi guys,

this week we've joined MySpace and we have launched an exciting new inspirational photography competition.

We have a fantastic new competition for you...but you've got to be quick. We are giving away 2 tickets to each of 9 different NME Freshers Tour gigs around the country. The first gig is next week so you have to be quick. To win a prize, you have to take a picture of something that inspires you and send it in to thomas @ cancerbackup.org. We'll then pick the best pics and give away the tickets. You also have to let us know which gig you'd like to go to...have a look at the pictures already added to our inspirational gallery

Also, let us know which of the photos you like best...by chatting about it in the forums

So, not only are we now on Facebook and Bebo, but we're also on MySpace...so however you get your social network hit...we're there.

TIC blog for September 11th 2007

Firstly an apology to everyone, because this week's blog is one day late. I know, I know, you've all been waiting eagerly for it, but there's a good reason why it's late...yesterday was thomas' birthday...so we were too busy celebrating to post the blog.

visit the TIC facebook group

TIC joins facebook

Some of you out there have suggested to us that we should build a presence on some of the large social networks out there...like myspace and facebook and bebo.

So, we've started by joining Facebook. There is now a Teen Info on Cancer group that you can join, add your pics too, leave a message, find out about any TIC events, watch some TIC videos and all that sort of thing.

If you are a member of facebook do please join our group...and tell your friends about it too. The more people who join the more people we can help and the bigger the TIC community will get.

MySpace and Bebo profiles are coming soon...hopefully this week, so we'll let you know next week.

Also, check out this forum thread and tell us if there are any other sites you'd like us to be a part of.

visit TIC's bebo page

TIC joins Bebo

So this morning it was Facebook, and now it's Bebo...soon it will be the worlddd!!!!

Some of you prefer Bebo to Facebook so now we are on Bebo too...get yourself on there, add us as a friend, write on our wall, tell your friends about us and all the rest of it.
