Hi. I just signed up too and I'm not sure how to use this. Anyway, I hope this works.
I'm 16 years old and I just finished radiation therapy. Don't panic about it too much. I haven't had to go through Chemo but I've been told radiation isn't nearly as bad. My radiation was concentrated just under my left temple so most of the side effects where on my head. It'll probably be about 2 weeks before you feel any different. The whole thing is a gradual build up. Some of the side effects I experienced where: My left saliva gland got a bit toasted so my saliva got all thick and lumpy (pretty gross actually) plus my taste changed quite a lot. I actually got ora Thrush which is a fungal infection in your mouth. That was the worst part for me actually. I lost my hair where the radiation beams where aimed. They told me that the hair isn't going to grow back, But we're young, so who knows? I felt very tired and drained. The places where the radiation was being concentrated got stiff and sensitive. That's about it.
I was still able to go out with me friends and family and have a nice time. I had to go into the hospital everyday except weekends to have the therapy. It only takes about 5 minutes. Don't be scared about the actual Radio machine. They're big but nothing to be afraid of. They'll have you lie down probably. Everyone leaves the room and the doctors talk to you through the intercom. The machine makes a loud sound when the radio beams are on. Don't worry you can't feel the radiation beams. I could smell Ozone when the beam went of, But few people smell that. I had to wear a mask to keep my head in place. Do you know if you will wear a mask? they're molded to the shape of your face and I felt a bit claustrophobic in mine. That's pretty much all I have to say..... Sorry I waffled on a bit there didn't I? DON'T PANIC IT'S NOT THAT BAD. Reply if you have ant more questions.

Hey
I just got diagnosed with a brain tumour too. I just started chemotherapy and I will probably have to have radiotherapy as well. Try and stay strong, us people with blobs on the brain need to stick together (or at least that's what my best friend lissa always says (she has a brain tumour as well)!!! Anyway when I feel kindof depressed or scared I just think of this...
dream BIG...reach for the STARS...being BALD ain't gonna stop me!!! :-P
