Fatigue during chemo

tip added: 23/01/2008

Dottie (Hodgkin lymphoma, 20, F, England)

I found myself getting really fatigued during my first cycles of chemo and would stay in bed all day. This meant I was hardly sleeping at night though because I wasn't exerting any energy during the day. Obviously sometimes you literally don't have the energy to get yourself out of bed, and that's understandable. But if you can, go for a steady walk so your body gets a bit of excerise. It also gets you out of the house which can get very claustrophobic if you're inside all day. I found eating dinner at around 6pm meant I wasn't falling asleep in my plate! I also found that going to bed at the same time every evening made me sleep better because my body got used to a routine. The same with waking up in the morning too. It's a shame because fatigue does seem to last throughout each cycle but I found it did go away during the weeks off chemo.
