The Hair Thing

story added: 27/02/2006

Angie (Hodgkin lymphoma, 30, F, England)

Soo I'm kinda ok..though it's the hair thing. Since my first chemo my hair has continued to fall out..though as you can see from my latest pic I still have hair..I'm thinking it's because I generally..or normally have thick hair and that's why I haven’t gone bald yet. One of the things people associate with the word cancer is losing your hair..me too. I'm grateful I still have some but soo scared it will still fall out completely. Maybe people that lose it quicker have thinner hair? Who knows..I read chemo effects people in different ways, some people's hair just thins, others go completely bald, others keep their hair. It all came at a time when I was looking to get a better job..and grow my hair! I really want long hair again..I've had it short and flicky since 2004 and decided to change it..then all this happens..I feel like my life is on hold. Anyway I also read it can come out in clumps..mine seems to come out more the days following chemo..just strands of it..maybe 10 or more if I pull my fingers through it, even more when I dry and style it with my normal hair gunk! It's quite scary..sometimes I find myself crying in the shower..I did when it first clogged up the plug hole :-( but there you go, it's out of my hands..It'll grow back.
