The specialist nurses at Macmillan Cancer Support are all very experienced cancer nurses. They have all worked in different cancer specialities before coming to work here. This means that some will be expert in blood cancers and others in bone cancers, and so on.

They spend about half of their working day answering calls to the helpline. The other half is spent answering email enquiries, writing information such as new fact sheets, and updating information for the web or the booklets. They also take time to keep up to date with new developments in cancer.

There are more than 30 nurses working for Macmillan Cancer Support, both on the helpline and in local centres.

Specialist nurses

Hi, I’m Laura, the new teenage cancer information nurse at Macmillan. I'm really looking forward to working on the TIC site.

My background is as a nurse looking after people with all different types of cancer.  I’ve worked on hospital wards, day units and also doing research. In my spare time I love being outdoors and have various hobbies including water skiing and horse riding. I also love surfing, camping and travelling. I have lived in Kenya and Singapore and love exploring new places!

I really look forward to hearing from all of you and if you feel there’s any information that needs to be put on the website please just say. You can leave a note on my profile page.

Hey, I’m Richard, one of Macmillan Cancer Support’s nurses. I take calls on the helpline and help to write a lot of our information booklets and fact sheets. I’ve been a nurse for 18 years and have worked at Macmillan Cancer Support for the last six.

Macmillan Cancer Support is a great place to work as there’s a great bunch of nurses. When I’m not nursing, I like to travel and love to go scuba diving.
