The TIC mission
TIC wants to give teenage cancer patients and their families the up-to-date information, practical advice and support they need to reduce the fear and uncertainty of cancer. It also provides a place for teenagers with cancer to come, build a community and help each other.
TIC was created by Cancerbackup. In 2008, Cancerbackup merged with Macmillan Cancer Support.
the team that makes us tic...
Lots of people contribute to the development of TIC, including people at Macmillan Cancer Support, specialists who work with teenagers and teenagers themselves. Some of the key people are:
Annie
Annie is the editor for the TIC site content. She makes sure all of the information is checked by the right people, and then publishes it. She works closely with the TIC nurse to update the site and write the blog, and also looks after the community elements of TIC.
What this really means is she's here to help all of you guys, answer any questions, help you build your online profile and help develop any new bits and bobs we add to the site. You can contact Annie on awaite@macmillan.org.uk
Jeremy
Dr Jeremy Whelan is the medical consultant for TIC. He is our expert who approves all medical information before it goes online. Jeremy is an oncologist at University College Hospital, who specialises in bone and soft tissue sarcomas. He also chairs the steering group that looks at the cancer information available for teenagers.
Laura, Charlotte and Richard
Laura, Charlotte and Richard are all nurses who have been responsible for writing the content on the TIC site since the site started. Laura is now the nurse that makes sure all the cancer information is up to date and accurate. They are all cancer specialists.
cancer support specialists
Macmillan Cancer Support's cancer support specialists write content, reply to your questions, and answer the phone if you call our helpline: 0808 808 00 00.
jamkit
Jamkit are our technical developers - they do the complicated bit - making it all work! The website runs on their content management system, with additional bits created especially for TIC, like the share it section of the website.
consultation crew
Whenever there’s new info to go online we have it looked at by young people who have or have had cancer. They can tell us if it’s easy to understand and if it’s the sort of stuff you would want on the site. You are more than welcome to join the Crew if this sounds like something you'd want to do.
Big thanks to all of the young people who have told us what they think and helped us to develop the site.
