This statement contains information about how TIC (Macmillan Cancer Support) uses the information that we collect from you. It covers email enquiries, cookies and research.
In certain parts of the site, we will ask you for personal details (name, age, cancer type, etc.) so that you can use all of the site's services. Whenever you provide us with this information we will act in accordance with the law as it is now and aim to meet Internet best practise.

- If you are 16 or under, please get your parent or guardian's consent before signing up to these pages. Without this consent, you should not provide us with personal information.
- All personal information you give will be stored securely in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
- Nothing that can identify you (name, email) will be shared with anyone else.
email addresses
If you send a question to 'Ask a cancer support specialist', we will reply to the address you email us from. This is to maintain confidentiality and to make sure that we don't send information inappropriately (e.g. to someone who may not be expecting it). Any information about yourself or your health that you tell us is confidential and will not be shared with anyone else. All information you give us will be kept and then destroyed within the Data Protection Act 1998. The information will be kept securely for a year and then destroyed in accordance with the act.
We will only use your email address in an appropriate way:
- If you send us a question, then we will not use your email address to contact you for any other reason.
- If you are sending us feedback you don't have to supply us with any personal details unless you would like a reply.
- If you are registered with TIC, then we may use your email address to contact you about the website, including about your contributions.
Cookies
We use 'cookies' to find out how many people have looked at these pages. Cookies are small text files that are sent to your computer when you open our web pages. They do not identify an individual user, just the computer used. The cookie tells our server if that computer has visited the site before and what it looked at - it does not collect any personal information.
