On many teenage wards, you are allowed to have a lie-in until about 10am before the day starts, although breakfast is often served from about 7.30am. You will sometimes have to get up earlier if you are going for an operation or for scans and tests.
When the day starts, the lights will come on and you will be woken up for your morning medicines and for the nurses and doctors to check up on you. If you’re not feeling well, you will be able to go back to sleep. Sometimes it’s hard to have a lie-in when there’s all this activity around you but many people find they get used to it.
At the end of the day, the lights will probably be switched off at around 10pm and all bedside tellies must also be switched off. If you’re not tired and you still want to stay up, you can go to the recreation room so that other people can rest.
