You may have chemotherapy in a hospital miles away from where you live so you can’t get there when you have problems in between treatments. You will therefore have to go to your nearest hospital when you feel ill, often known as your shared care hospital or shared partnership hospital. Doctors at your cancer hospital and shared care hospital will have spoken to each other so they will already know what’s wrong with you and what treatment you are having. Just like at your main treatment hospital, a consultant will be responsible for looking after you and planning any treatment you might need, along with a team of doctors and nurses.
