Having high-dose treatment with stem cell support can be a frightening experience. Although you may sometimes feel optimistic, you might also be anxious, afraid or miserable.

Being in hospital for long periods can make you feel ‘cut off’ from real life and you might think that life is passing you by. You may worry that your mates will forget about you or get bored with visiting you.

These feelings can be powerful and overwhelming at times. It's important to remember that this is a really stressful time. You'll have days when it all feels like too much and other days when it feels a bit more manageable. Everyone needs support during difficult times and some find it good to talk to someone close to them. Most hospitals will have a counsellor that you can see.
