A painless swelling of the lymph glands is the most common symptom of Hodgkin lymphoma. Here's what else to look out for:
- The swelling may continue for several weeks and frequently starts in the specific area of the glands on one side of the neck, just above the collarbone.
- Swollen glands can sometimes be felt in the armpit or groin.
- Breathlessness or a cough - this may happen if the glands in the chest are affected.
- Rarer symptoms are a high temperature or fever, night sweats, irritated skin or weight loss (these symptoms are sometimes called B symptoms).
If you have any of these symptoms, or are worried that you may have Hodgkin lymphoma, the first thing to do is see your family doctor (GP). They'll examine you and refer you onto a hospital if they think you need to see a specialist doctor.
