A painless swelling in the lymph glands or nodes is the most common symptom of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The symptoms can vary depending on which lymph nodes are affected, such as:

  • Chest lymph glands  - if these are affected it may cause coughs and problems with breathing, or a puffy face and neck.
  • Abdominal glands - if these are affected it may cause a blockage in the bowel which may require an operation to remove.
  • General symptoms - these include a high temperature or fever, loss of appetite, night sweats, irritated skin or weight loss.

If you have any of these symptoms, or are worried that you may have non-Hodgkin lymphoma, the first thing to do is see your family doctor (GP). They'll examine you and refer you onto a hospital if they think you need to see a specialist doctor.
